Diary Update - Day 2
posted on 01/03/2010
The second day of the World Cup took started in slightly overcast conditions on the Indian public holiday known as " Holi" day ( The festival of colour ) where the custom is to brighten up the daily routine by throwing brightly coloured coloured dyes over your friends and family. The added advantage of holiday to hockey enthusiasts was that it meant that the busy street traffic was less than normal in the morning and particularly evening rush hour. Games at this World Cup are scheduled for late afternoon and evening in order to keep out of the heat of the day.
Grays sponsored Canadian captain Ken Perriera will have been happy with his team's overall performance if not the final outcome of their opening game against New Zealand where the Kiwis came from behind to win 3-2. Dean Couzins played well at the back for the Kiwis marshalling the defensive line for the whilst his Grays teammate Shea McAleese was lively upfront for the Blacksticks.
Linus Butt the Grays German newcomer was not alone using Grays sticks in the defending world champions opening match against Korea who are sponsored by Grays International and Linus will have been pleased that after a sluggish start that his team staged a second half fight back from 2 nil down against the men from Korea to draw the match 2-2.
In the final game of the day, Grays sponsored Dutch midfielder Robert Kemperman, playing is his first World Cup will have been pleased by the 3 - 0 win over Argentina - He will have recognised the man he was marking by not only his Grays stick as Matias Paredes who also plays his hockey regularly in the Dutch national league.
