posted on 10/03/2010

This was a day when all but last place was still to be decided at the outset of the final days matches.

Four teams could still make the semi finals so there was much to play for.

In the days opening game Germany again turned on their power to overwhelm New Zealand by 5- 2 to make the semi finlas. The defending champions began the match in a typically aggressive manner and scored their first goal in the 15th minute and doubled their lead from a penalty corner rebound in the 28th to go two nil ahead. Soon after half time Germany score again and it looked all over but New Zealand rallied and scored twice in quick succession to set German fans on edge. Howeever Germany settled the match with two penalty corners to secure the Germans place in the semi finals.

In the second game Korea beat The Netherlands 2-1 a result that was so close as it meant that the Koreans were one goal away from the semi finals on goal difference - Heartbreak when they have missed so many chances here over their pool games. Coming from behind Korea scored through goals by Hyn Woo Nam and Jong Ho Seo.Itwas tough luck on the Koreans but the Netherlands go forward into the semi finals - There is some consolation for the Koreans because they will remain in the World top six and compete in the years Champions Trophy in July this year
